What is Aromatherapy?
Aromatherapy is a holistic healing treatment that uses natural plant extracts, such as essential oils, hydrosols, and carrier oils in a variety of ways to promote health and well-being. Aromatherapy products can enhance physical and emotional health and greatly help with stress reduction.
Essential oils are used for their therapeutic properties to help heal the mind, body, and spirit. Essential oils live in various parts of plants: flower petals, flower buds, leaves, roots, trunk, needles, and fresh fruit peels. The oils are extracted from plants in several different ways. Steam distillation and cold pressing (also called "expression") are the two most common methods.
Essential oils are well-researched and contain therapeutic components that can support our immune systems, reduce pain and inflammation, heal our skin, and ward off microbes such as bacteria, viruses, fungi, and much more.
Aromatherapy has a direct connection to the brain, is able to cross the blood-brain barrier which protects your brain, and eventually flows to all parts of your body. Aromatherapy in combination with simple somatic practices, such as breathwork and meditation can create a positive shift for you to cope with life's curveballs to handle situations more effectively and with ease.
In addition to these medicinal benefits, essential oils smell great! I like to utilize them in my massage sessions as well as create lovely products.
